New Shelby Mustang 1000 S/C Gets a Bugatti-Rivaling 1,200HP for NY Auto Show

As if the 2013 Shelby GT500, with its 662 hp, was not quick enough, Ford and partner Shelby deemed it necessary to add an even more powerful variant to their high performance range.
In 2012, Shelby debuted the GT500-based 1000at the New York Auto Show, and this year's edition of the event has been chosen as the venue for the unveiling of an even madder 1000 S/C with a mind-boggling 1,200 hp.
We'll remind you that the 2012MY 1000 gets around 950-horses for the street-legal version and over 1,100HP for the track oriented S/C edition.
Displacement for the 2013 Mustang 1000 S/C is up from 5.4-liters to 5.8-liters, courtesy of a revised engine, which retains the strengthened pistons, rods and crank of the old unit, as well as the supercharger system and extensive cooling needed to keep everything running at optimum temperature.
In addition, in order to keep you pointing in the right direction as well as to stop, the 2013 Shelby Mustang 1000 S/C gets an adjustable suspension and beefier brakes. No mention is made of the live rear axle, so we suspect the car retains it, despite the $154,995 (€119,300) price tag.
Performance figures have not been released yet. However, while it may very well be the most powerful street-legal muscle car in existence, we can't help but think that for the money, you could buy your own GT500 (or a more nimble 2013 Boss 302), then spend the difference on making it just as fast.
You will probably save a lot of money in the process, while also getting a car tailored specifically for what you need. Furthermore, they're only making 100 of them, so chances are that even if you are willing to buy one, you won't be able to.
