New Corvette 427 Convertible Collector Edition and 60th Anniversary Package Mark the End of the C6

The 2013 model year of the Corvette not only marks the 60th anniversary of Chevy's iconic sports car but also the final production year for the current C6 before it is replaced by an all-new model.
To celebrate the event, Chevrolet has created the new 2013 Corvette 427 Convertible Collector Edition and the 60th Anniversary Package that will be available on all 2013 Corvette models. Both will make their public debut at the Barrett Jackson collector car auction in Arizona on January 21, and go on sale early this summer.
Chevy says that the 427 Convertible Collector Edition, which blends elements from the Z06 and ZR1 models, is the "most capable" drop-top model in the Corvette’s history.
As the name suggests, the special edition convertible is powered by the Z06's 427 cu.in. (7.0-liter) V8 engine rated at 505 horsepower and 470 lb.-ft. of torque (637 Nm), making it the most powerful series production Corvette Convertible ever. It's available exclusively with a six-speed manual transmission.
Aside from the powerful V8, the collector's edition gets the same driveline and rear axle system as the Corvette Z06, a rear-mounted battery and standard Magnetic Selective Ride Control, along with 19-inch front and 20-inch rear wheels wrapped in ZR1-style Michelin PS2 tires and several carbon-fiber components such as the hood, Z06-style fenders and floor panels.
The 2013 Corvette 427 Convertible Collector Edition tips the scales at 3,355 pounds (1,522 kg) delivering estimated 0-60mph (96km/h) performance of 3.8 seconds, quarter-mile time of 11.8 seconds, lateral acceleration of 1.04 g and a top speed of more than 190 mph (305km/h).
The new 60th Anniversary Package is available on all 2013MY Corvette models including the 427 Convertible. It features an Arctic White exterior with a Blue Diamond leather-wrapped interior with suede accents, while the Convertible models also get a blue top.
Other features include a ZR1-style rear spoiler, special badging inside and out, gray-painted brake calipers and the “60th” logo on the wheel center caps, steering wheel and seat headrests, plus optional graphics package with full-length racing stripes in Pearl Silver Blue.
If you scroll down, you can find a list with all the Collector and Anniversary Edition models released throughout the Corvette's history.

Detroit Show Video: Is this the 2013 Shelby GT500 Convertible or did Ford's Rep Make a Mistake?

Without getting into any names, the crew over at Jalopnik are making it a point to proveAutoblog (the dot com one) wrong on its assumption that Ford will reveal the 2013 Shelby GT500 Convertible at the rapidly approaching Detroit Motor Show.
We decided to take a look around and see what we could find and the result was this official Ford video that just came out with a company representative taking us for a quick tour around the Blue Oval's booth at the Cobo center in Detroit.
Ford has prepared a pretty impressive display that includes a racing cockpit that allows you to take the new Focus ST for a virtual ride as well as a 20-foot-tall elevator that takes visitors into “the Cloud,” where they enjoy a 360-degree film showcasing the future of in-vehicle technology from Ford.
But what really caught our attention and the reason why we're writing this article is the display with the Shelby GT500 Convertible (about 2 minutes into the video) strapped onto a dyno.
The Ford rep says it's the new model with the 650-horsepower 5.8-liter supercharged V8, which if true, would make it the 2013 Shelby GT500 Convertible as the 2012 model is equipped with a 5.4-liter lump delivering 550HP.
The problem is that, from what we can tell by watching the video, this Shelby GT500 Convertible features the same front honeycomb style front grilles and alloy wheel designs as the 2012MY Coupe and Convertible models and not the update grille/rims found on the 2013MY Shelby GT500 Coupe, which made its premiere in Los Angeles last November.
So, either the Ford rep made a mistake on the video (most probably) or the Shelby 2013MY Shelby GT500 Convertible only gets the new V8 engine and skimps on the design upgrades (less likely).

New Jaguar XKR-S Convertible and Updated Land Rover DC100 Concepts to Debut at L.A. Show

Visitors attending next week's 2011 Los Angeles International Automobile Show (November 16 to 28) will have the opportunity to witness the latest offerings from Jaguar and Land Rover, one of which will make its world premiere.
The new XKR-S Convertible is the model that will make its first-ever public outing – at least in production form, as we’ve already scooped prototypes doing the rounds at the Nürburgring Nordschleife.
The 550HP open top model will feature the same styling tweaks, suspension and performance modifications as the XKR-S coupe that was launched last March at the Geneva Motor Show.
Among other changes are a new front end featuring a redesigned bumper with side winglets and a vented hood. The XKR-S Convertible will also sport new alloy wheels, side skirts, an anything-but-subtle rear wing, rear diffuser and four tailpipes
This convertible is not all show and no go; on the contrary, the 5.0-liter supercharged V8 pumps out 550HP and 680 Nm (501 lb-ft) offering a not-too-shabby 4.2-second 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) acceleration time in the coupe.
Since power is almost useless without control, Jaguar’s engineers have also retuned and lowered the suspension and have fitted high-performance brakes.
Land Rover’s main attraction will be the Defender-previewing DC100 concept that premiered at the IAA and, as reported, will cross the Atlantic in a slightly changed form.
Land Rover says it decided to alter the DC100 after receiving feedback from visitors at the Frankfurt show.
According to the company, the L.A. show version will get a “Heritage Blue” body color and new wheels and tires, which according to the company, are optimized for off-road driving, emphasizing the model’s rugged character and 4x4 capabilities.
"Jaguar Land Rover is proud to be demonstrating for the U.S. market the latest design and technology advancements we have made with both brands”, said JLR CEO Dr. Ralf Speth. “Our presence here reflects the fact that the U.S. is an important market for our global growth plans, and Southern California is a key region from a business and a global trends perspective."
Apart from the aforementioned models, Jaguar will also display its C-X16 hybrid sports car concept that debuted in Frankfurt and is billed both as a modern-day E-Type and a Porsche Cayman / 911 rival.
