Taiwan's Luxgen Launches its First Sedan Model, the Luxgen5 [Videos and Gallery]

|

Mazda isn't the only automaker to use its name as a designation for its model series. Taiwan's aspiring new automotive brand Luxgen has adopted the same nomenclature for its range of models that has now been expanded with its first ever four-door sedan, the Luxgen5 that joins the Luxgen7 MPV and Luxgen7 SUV.The newly revealed Luxgen5 is the production version of the Neora EV concept study that was exhibited at the Auto Shanghai 2011 in China earlier this year.
The Taiwanese automaker says it is targeting the medium-large sedan market with the new Luxgen5 that will make its world premiere at the 2012 Taipei Auto Show next April.
According to Luxgen, the four-door model has been created for global markets in mind since its inception. The chassis has been designed with the support of US engineering analysts Altair, while the car was tested by UK safety organization Mira to meet the chassis configuration requirements of local and overseas markets.
Power comes from a choice of two four-cylinder petrol engines, a 1.8-liter VVT Turbo producing 150HP and 23.5kgm (230Nm) that's matched to a 5-speed automatic transmission, and a 2.0-liter VVT Turbo delivering 170HP and 26.1kgm (256Nm), coupled to a 6-speed automatic from Aisin.
The larger displacement engine allows for 0-100km/h (62mph) sprint time of 8.5 seconds and a top speed of 210km/h (131mph).
Other highlights include a full suite of safety features such as ABS, EBD electronic brake-force distribution, a BAS brake assist system, an ESC electronic stability control system and a TCS traction control system, along with a 'jet fighter-style' HUD display and the LUXGEN THINK+Touch infotainment system developed in collaboration with smartphone maker hTC that comes with a large touchscreen incorporated in the center console.
Kudos to Austin Hsu for the tip!

Nissan Launches Stripped Out 370Z NISMO RC Racer Ready for the Track

type='html'>
|

Ferrari and other luxury sports car makers aren't the only ones to offer race-spec variants of their series production models. Joining the club is Nissan with its newly revealed 370Z NISMO RC that is now available for customer orders.
The Japanese firm's track-ready racer is based on the street-legal 370Z NISMO but has undergone an extreme diet dropping the production model's luxury amenities. As a result, Nissan Motorsport engineers managed to shave more than 350 pounds off the 370Z NISMO RC, which tips the scales at just 2,954 lbs (1,339kg).
In addition to the crash diet, Nissan Motorsport also added numerous NISMO performance upgrades such as a race-spec exhaust system, a tuned ECM, a high capacity clutch, flywheel, engine oil, transmission and differential coolers.
The 3.7-liter V6 engine is slightly more powerful than the stock unit at 355-horsepower and 276 ft. lbs. of torque.
Other upgrades include a Recaro racing seat with 6-point racing harness, a Sparco racing steering wheel, a race-ready carbon fiber switch panel and the fitment of a FIA-compliant roll cage and fire extinguisher.
Nissan said that it designed the 370Z NISMO RC to conform to International FIA GT4 and World Challenge GTS class specifications, adding that with some modifications, it can also compete in the Grand Am Continental Tire Challenge GS class.
Pricing was not announced, but those interested may contact Nissan Motorsports at 1 (888) 833-3225 or nmc.race(at)nissan-usa.com for more details.

Lotus Launches F1-Inspired Special Edition of Evora S

type='html'>
|

Lotus has released a new limited run special of its Evora S sports car that pays homage to the brand's Formula 1 team. As such, it is painted in the racing team’s colors with black bodywork and gold-painted stripes on the hood, the profile and the roof, as well as a gold-hued “Lotus” decal at the rear.
The Evora S special, of which only three units will be produced, also features gold-colored 19-inch front and 20-inch rear alloy wheels, while the interior sports plenty of suede upholstery with red stitching.
The limited edition is based on the normal Evora S, meaning it is powered by a supercharged version of Toyota’s 3.5-liter V6 delivering 350HP matched to a six-speed manual gearbox.
The three customers who will snag the limited edition model will have to shell out £69,950 (US$109,823) – or £7,500 (US$11,775) more than the non-F1-painted version.
We can’t help but wonder if that’s what Herr Kalbfellmeant by intending to “make the world notice our cars”.

Nissan Officially Launches 2013 Note B-Segment Hatchback in Geneva

type='html'>
|

Ever since Nissan showed off their Invitation concept, at last year's edition of the Geneva Motor Show, and announced that it previews the next generation of their popular Note hatchback, we knew they were planning a change of style. Sure, the old Note was a practical and spacious car, but let's face it; it was just a bit boxy and uninspiring to look at.
Thankfully, the 2013 model changes all that, with more pronounced flanks, and generally more voluptuous shapes, hiding its still rather upright shape with some clever styling cues which are now the norm on a style-obsessed European supermini market.Set to go on sale in Europe later this year, the new Note will be powered by a base 1.2-liter petrol engine, with 80 hp and 110 Nm (81 lb-ft) of torque, as well as a supercharged 1.2-liter DIG-S unit also available on the Micra. The force-fed petrol unit puts out 98 hp and 142 Nm (105 lb-ft) and is actually more efficient than the normally-aspirated variant.
A Renault-sourced 1.5-liter DCi diesel will also be available, and with 90 hp and 220 Nm (162 lb-ft) it will move the compact Note with ease. Furthermore, it is easily the most efficient engine on offer, boasting a claimed figure of 3.6 l/100 km (78.5 mpg UK) – considerably better than the supercharged petrol engine, which manages a very respectable 4.3 lt/100km (65.7 mpg UK).
The Note will be built in Nissan's Sunderland plant, in the UK, alongside the Juke compact crossover as well as the Europe-bound all-electric Nissan Leaf.

First Alfa Romeo 4C Promo Touts Brand's Return to the U.S., Configurator Launches in June

type='html'>
|

There's a lot to like about the production Alfa Romeo 4C, from its ultra-lightweight construction that uses carbon fiber components to keep the dry weight at a surprisingly low 895kg or 1,973 pounds, to its nicely crafted body, and one thing to hate: those spider eye-style headlamps that look like a bad afterthought.
Of course, it could be just us and a bunch of other gearheads we talked to and who said the same thing, so if you disagree, don't be shy to share your feelings in the comments.
Now, the reason why we're coming back to the 236HP (240PS) Alfa 4C that was unwrapped earlier today at the Geneva Auto Show isn't to talk about its lights, but to tell you that the Italian brand has released the first promotion videos of the mid-engine sports car, and launched a primitive online configurator.
Alfa tells us in one of the videos that the full-spec configurator will be available in June. The one that's online now, only gives the chance to choose from two colors for the body and interior trim.
At Alfa Romeo's Geneva motor show press conference, the Italian company's CEO Harald Wester confirmed the 4C's North American premiere at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November, with first deliveries before the end of the year.
While Alfa won't reveal pricing for the United States until the LA show, Wester did say that the 4C Launch Edition shown in Geneva will be priced at €60,000 (US$78,000) in Europe where it goes on sale in September.
