Volkswagen has launched the new Caddy Maxi Camper in the UK, the most compact and affordable model in the carmaker’s camper range behind the California Beach and SE models, and the Caravelle with “sleep pack”.
Based on the Caddy Maxi, the Camper edition is 4.8-meters (15.75 feet) long and 1.8-meters (5.9 feet) high and is priced from £23,397 (€27,600) in the UK. Specific standard equipment includes basic camping equipment, such as a fold-out double bed, two deck chairs, portable table, electric cool box and awning.
The van also get special “Takato” upholstery, Climatic air conditioning, power front windows, electric and heated door mirrors, leather steering wheel, front fog lamps, trip computer and cruise control, among other features.
Once the rear seats are folded down and the front seats tipped forward, the interior of the Caddy Maxi Camper turns into a bedroom, with the flat double bed measuring 1.1 x 2.0 meters. Privacy is ensured by a curtain that attaches around the interior windows.
There’s even an awning for those who want extra space. Measuring 2.3 x 2.0 meters, it attaches to clips around the tailgate to provide additional outdoor living space. When on the road, the awning, table and chairs fit into special storage spaces in the rear.
The VW Caddy Maxi Camper can be also used as a van, as the fold-out bed behind the rear seats can be removed to give 1.6 cubic meters of space for bikes or other equipment. If the rear seats are folded forward, load-space increases to 3.2 cubic meters with an available depth of 1.8 meters. Bikes or a roof-box can also be transported on the roof.
There are two common rail diesel engines available for the Caddy Maxi Camper – a 1.6-liter TDI with 101hp (102PS) returning 54.3 UK mpg (5.2 liters/100 km) or a 2.0-liter TDI with 138hp (140PS) rated at 49.6 UK mpg (5.7 l/100 km). Both are available with DSG automatic transmission.

A little over a week after VW released UK pricing for the new generation Golf GTI, the German carmaker did the same for the diesel-version of the sports hatch, the Golf GTD that is available to order now in Britain, with prices starting at £25,285 on the road (OTR).
The starting price is £310 more than the previous GTD, with VW stating it comes better equipped, while it's £560 less than the base 217hp (220PS) version of the gasoline-powered Golf GTI Mk7.
Available in both 3- and 5-door body styles, thenew Golf GTD Mk7 keeps the looks and parts of the re-tuned chassis of the GTI, while swapping the petrol unit for a 2.0-liter common rail, turbocharged diesel rated for 181hp (184PS) and 380Nm (280 lb-ft) of peak torque from 1,750 rpm,
With the standard 6-speed manual gearbox turning the front wheels, acceleration from zero to 62 mph (100km/h) takes 7.5 seconds, while the top speed is 142 mph (229km/h), and fuel consumption is 67.3mpg UK (56.0mpg US or 4.2lt/100km), making for CO2 emissions of 109 g/km. When fitted with the optional six-speed dual-clutch DSG transmission, the Golf GTD returns 62.8mpg UK (52.3mpg US or 4.5lt/100km) and 122g/km of CO2.
Among other standard features, the GTD comes with smoked LED rear lights with LED licence plate illumination, bi-xenon headlights with LED daytime running lights, 18-inch wheels with 225/40 tyres, tartan ‘Jacara Grey’ sports seats, a black roof lining, sports steering wheel and stainless steel pedals, plus a touchscreen infotainment system which also includes DAB digital radio, Bluetooth and iPod connectivity.

It’s not hard to see why this VW Golf VII from German tuners "Low-Car-Scene" and "Blackbox-Richter" has all the makings of being a smashing hit at an underground party with some fist punching techno rhythms.
BlackBox-Richter began with a regular black-colored 2013 Volkswagen Golf 1.4 TSI hatchback, which it covered in a special, phosphor-foil wrap from 3M in white for the body and soft-pink shade for the stripes and details, which turn green and black respectively when the lights go off.
The new 20-inch rims (€6,000 or US$7,800) also glow in the dark, with a purple-colored LED lamp mounted on the "mudguard of the brake" (according to the tuner), guaranteeing that you won't go by unnoticed in this Golf.
The finishing touch come via an air ride-system called RideAir Version 3 from Low-Car-Scene (€3,600 or US$4,700) and a new front bumper that the company says is sourced from a Golf Mk6 R-Line model.
After you check out the pictures and video, tell us what you think about this tune in the comments.
