Meet the Volar-e, a 1,000Hp All-Electric Hypercar

Electric-powered cars are still not associated with a sporty drive, and some say the lack of internal combustion noise detracts from the overall thrill factor of the driving experience. This, however, hasn't stopped a Spanish company called 'Applus Idiada' from trying to make something which would negate all the critics’ arguments. The result is a monstrous, all-electric hypercar, called the Volar-e. It is the collaborative effort Applus Idiada and Rimac Automobili from Croatia, the creators of the equally mad, Rimac Concept_One EV.
The all-wheel drive Volar-e features four separate electric motors, which give it a total power output of 1,000hp, and no less than 1,000 Nm (737 lb-ft) of instant torque, from 0 rpm.
The electric motors draw their juice from a 38 kWh battery pack, which reportedly takes just 10 to 15 minutes to charge, using a high-output fast charger. Range has not been specified, but as with all EVs, it varies greatly according to driving style and road conditions. If raced flat out, it probably can't do more than a few laps of an average-sized track.
Performance is predictably, impressive as well, and the manufacturer claims it can reach 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.4 seconds, before topping out at an electronically-limited top speed of 300 km/h (186 mph). Still, for an all-wheel drive car, with bags of instant torque, the time it takes to complete the benchmark sprint seems somewhat slow, considering the fact that the much less powerful and heavier Tesla Model S sedan can achieve the same feat just half a second slower.
The car is now in prototype form, and we currently don't have any information on a possible limited production run or anything of the sort. To get the complete picture, and see the Volar-e in action, check out the video after the jump.
