In yet another display of the increasing importance of the Chinese market, Citroen will be revealing a new concept car named the "Wild Rubis" that hints at a future SUV for its upmarket DS sub-brand at next week's Shanghai Motor Show. This is the third time in recent years that Citroen has chosen a Chinese auto show for the world premiere of a DS concept car, the two previous models being the shooting-brake-style Numero 9at the 2012 Beijing Motor Show and the DS9 sports saloon at the Shanghai Auto Show in 2010.
Citroen says the DS Wild Rubis study is 4,700mm (185-inches) long, 1,950mm (76.8-inhces) wide, and 1,590mm (62.6-inches) tall, and rides on a 2,900mm (114.2-inches) wheelbase. In other words, it's closer in overall length to a BMW X3 but has a wheelbase almost as long as that found on the X5.
The French brand with the double chevron logo said the DS Wild Rubis was designed "to be driven by full-hybrid plug-in technology", but evaded to divulge further details about the powertrain. Nevertheless, judging by the PSA Peugeot-Citroen Group's current portfolio, it is likely that the concept features a turbocharged diesel or gasoline four-cylinder engine driving the front wheels and an electric motor turning the rear set of wheels.
For more information, we will have to wait until the opening of the Shanghai Auto Show on April 20.
