The Mazda6 is the second car to feature the brand's latest Kodo styling language, as it is preceded by the CX-5 crossover, but it features a more evolved and more mature look, and it is widely-acknowledged as one of the prettiest cars in its segment. Now, it has achieved critical acclaim for the way it looks by winning the prestigious Red Dot design award – one of the world's largest design competitions, which started in 1955.
The 37-strong jury praised the Mazda6 for its "high level of design innovation and bold stance," which has already won two additional awards since its launch – "Best Upper Medium" from Fleet News Awards.
It really seems to have paid off for Mazda, which has invested a lot of time, thought and effort into making the all-new Six a great all-rounder. This means that aside from looking very distinctive, in a class of cars all of which try to do so in some respect, it is also reportedly a great driver's car, with a rev-hungry diesel (an oddity) which is fast and returns great economy numbers, as well as good petrol engines and responsive steering.
If we are to view the matter from a wider perspective, when this new model will be facelifted, or replaced with an all-new car, perhaps some of the design flair of Mazda's partner, Alfa Romeo,will rub off on the Japanese automaker's current flagship offering and make it an even more cohesive design package like only the Italians know how.
